Tips For A Good Night's Sleep!

A good slumber is when the body best rejuvenates itself, supporting our nervous system among a whole host of other benefits. Our quality of life is directly related to the quality of our sleep.


Here are some tips for implementing a good sleep hygiene routine or bettering your already existing plan. The goal is to create the optimal environment for a great night's sleep on a continual basis.

  • Have a consistent “get ready for bed ritual”. Routines are signals to your brain that a specific action or event is about to happen and with time it becomes a habit. Things like doing your skincare routine, putting on pajamas and brushing your teeth at the same time every night is a good place to start.

  • Allot approximately half an hour for a wind down routine. Perhaps turn on some light music, practice meditation or do some light reading. The point is to partake in anything that calms your mind. Dimming the lights in your room increases your body's ability to produce melatonin, a hormone in the body that promotes sleep.

  • This wind down time should be device free! No tablets or cellphones, scrolling through your timeline is a no no before bed. This is your time to make the most out this quiet and calm. To center your mind and body, allowing for a natural drift off into sleep.

  • Some may find calming scents like lavender very soothing and conducive to a restful sleep.
